In 2016, then-mall owner Rouse Properties reinvested in the mall by demolishing JC Penney and replacing it with a Cinemark multiplex theater, outward-facing retail, parking lot improvements and a plan for development of additional pad sites west of Cinemark for additional dining and entertainment uses.
Only the Cinemark and a short-lived inline restaurant concept emerged from this plan, which helped drive some new traffic, however this effort alone could not reestablish the mall’s relevance.
